Riveting River Writing Director, Michael S. Malone, pairs up with Television reporter, Scott Budman, to produce The Silicon Insider podcast each week. The veteran industry journalists present a half-hour spirited discussion of the latest trends and happenings in the tech industry of Silicon Valley and beyond. When not doing his podcast or working for Riveting River, Michael writes, writes, and writes. As one of the world’s best-known technology reporters, he has covered Silicon Valley and high-tech for more than 25 years, beginning with the San Jose Mercury News as the nation’s first daily high-tech reporter, where he was twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting. His articles and editorials have appeared in such publications as The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, and Fortune, and for two years, Michael was a columnist for The New York Times. He was editor of Forbes ASAP, the world’s largest-circulation business-tech magazine, at the height of the dot-com boom. Michael is the author or co-author of nearly twenty award-winning books, notably the best-selling The Virtual Corporation, Bill and Dave, and The Future Arrived Yesterday. He has also hosted three nationally syndicated public television interview series’ and co-produced the Emmy-nominated primetime PBS miniseries on social entrepreneurs, The New Heroes. Michael holds an MBA from Santa Clara University, where he is currently an adjunct professor. He is also an associate fellow of the Said Business School at the University of Oxford and is a Distinguished Friend of Oxford.

Emmy Award-winning reporter Scott Budman reports on business and technology for NBC Bay Area. You can see his stories on the station’s evening newscasts. Born and raised in Oakland, Scott has been with NBC Bay Area since 1995. He began his broadcasting career in radio as a business reporter for KMNY radio in Anaheim. He then spent some time as a general assignment reporter and business anchor/producer at the Orange County News Channel. Before joining NBC Bay Area, Scott was a reporter and weekend anchor at KEYT in Santa Barbara. Scott has won many awards, including a national Iris Award for a documentary about gays in the military. He also received Golden Mike Awards from the Southern California Radio and Television News Directors Association. Scott is known as the “go-to” voice for breaking news in business and technology in Silicon Valley. You can often hear him on Bay Area radio waves updating listeners on the latest business and tech news on NPR and Alice radio. He is a regular blogger for Forbes as well as several other online publications. Scott has a degree in political science from UCLA.
