Synopsis

Which would you choose… the circle or the square?

Paul Baker is a famous online influencer with 14 million plus subscribers and influencer endorsements for his uplifting and motivating channel, YourBestLife—a completely bold and unconventional channel. Through cameras throughout his house, he allows people access to virtually every aspect of his life, 24-7. His goal is to motivate people by showing them that by following his tips on health, fitness, nutrition, meditation, and yoga, anyone can manifest the life they deserve. Yet, behind the admiration of his BestLifers lies a profound emptiness, a gnawing void that no amount of adulation can fill.

Paul bounces out of bed at 6 am, meditates, hikes, and does his morning inspirational routine, including introducing his followers to his new home in Los Angeles. He feels like he’s on top of the world.

One morning, a mysterious knock wakes Paul. He swings open the door to find an odd figurine sitting on a plate next to a bizarre mold of Jello. Intrigued, Paul brings the Columbian figurine inside the door and into his life. The figurine holds a note in his hand that reads, “Your Jovial Companion.” Only when the Companion comes into his life do we realize how profoundly lonely Paul is and how lacking in genuine human connection.

Paul is captivated by his newfound companion and finds comfort in their company. They share moments of joy and intimacy, and Paul begins to rely on the Companion more and more, experiencing a sense of fulfillment he has never known. They do everything together—cook, watch TV, and play games. The Companion even teaches him Spanish. As their bond deepens, Paul’s fascination with the Companion intensifies. He also becomes increasingly detached from the outside world, blurring the lines between reality and illusion. Paul starts to notice subtle, peculiar changes in his appearance and behavior. His skin looks tighter, a little shinier. And he’s becoming more irritable. But he dismisses these as insignificant.

The Companion starts chastising him for being a wimp and a coward. During a fight with the Companion, Paul blows up and releases a borderline terrifying rage, clearly indicating a pent-up resentment that has grown for his unlikely friend. From here on out, their seemingly perfect friendship morphs and unravels. It becomes increasingly clear that the Companion exerts a sinister influence over Paul, manipulating his thoughts and actions to serve its inscrutable agenda. Paul begins to undergo a grotesque transformation, his body contorting and mutating into a nightmarish hybrid of man and figurine. His transformation is excruciatingly painful as any sense of humanity starts to strip away.
