Synopsis
Sometimes love means letting go
Is it OK to date when your spouse has Alzheimer’s? This is the ethical question addressed in Remember I Love You. After 52 years of marriage, Mason Taylor, a retired watchmaker, and Beverly Taylor, a dance instructor, must cope with Beverly’s deteriorating mental health due to Alzheimer’s. After a series of incidents that put both Mason and Beverly at risk, Mason makes the difficult decision to move Beverly into an Alzheimer’s facility in Florida, where his daughter and granddaughter live.
Near Mason’s new house, Beverly’s college friend Kathryn operates a bakery with her daughter Nikki. After a lonely evening at home, Mason visits the bakery, running into Kathryn and Nikki on their way home. Kathryn insists on taking Mason and Beverly to dinner. Mason accepts the invitation but doesn’t reveal anything about Beverly’s condition until he and Kathryn meet again.
Mason and Kathryn start to spend time together as friends but eventually both struggle to keep the relationship platonic. Mason’s daughter, Haley, has a problem that her father and Kathryn are getting close while Mason and those around him debate what it means to remain faithful to a spouse with dementia. Everyone has a different opinion. If Alzheimer’s fundamentally changes the relationship, what can a spouse do to address their own need for connection and companionship during this otherwise lonely time?
