Len Bertain
Len grew up in Scotia, the backdrop for Red Hawk Stories, , and trekked the woods on the hills above Scotia and Rio Dell from an early age. He is one of ten children (the ninth)—five boys and five girls. He is familiar with the history and life cycle of people living in Northern California, which is a background experience that is valuable in helping to promote and support Red Hawk Stories. Len’s family moved from their two-bedroom home in Scotia into the country to a location that was once a roaring lumber mill location and had since been abandoned. The only thing remaining was the town hotel which they occupied along with a number of rural farmers. Len attended school in Scotia and his family later moved to a new home in Rio Dell. This background has helped frame some of the discussions of how to make the Red Hawk Stories, series work.
Len has a PhD in Physics and worked in the semiconductor industry before forming a consultancy: The Consortium of Problem Solvers. He worked with company employees to identify problems and then to propose and implement solutions within an eight-week training program. It was intense, but the training was delivered to over 150 companies and 100,000 employees over 30 years. In 2014, he moved his classroom training to the internet and served another 100 companies.
Len enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren in Alameda, CA. He has recently taken up golf as a way to vent his frustrations with a smile.
