Screenwriter & Director

Hope Perello

Hope Perello is a Texas-born writer/director/producer who diligently climbed the ranks in film production before making her directorial debut with The Howling VI, a notable installment in the renowned The Howling franchise. The New York Times hailed the film as a “taut, suspenseful debut.” Following this success, she helmed Pet Shop, a delightful family comedy for Paramount Video, and masterminded the creation of St. Patrick’s Day, an indie romantic comedy revolving around an Irish-American family reunion, featuring Piper Laurie. The Los Angeles Times praised the latter as a “warm, funny family saga.”

With a shift in focus, Hope has channeled her creative energies into crafting original screenplays and scripts for various production companies and individuals. Her impressive portfolio includes The Mary Kay Letourneau Story for Fox Television and the development of the television pilot Wonderland in collaboration with Laura Ziskin Productions. She has been commissioned to write several compelling feature screenplays, such as Soldier Child, inspired by the plight of child soldiers in Uganda, and Che, a cinematic exploration of the life of the revolutionary icon, Che Guevara.

Notably, her recent endeavors involved both writing and directing Pawtucket, a thought-provoking dramedy centered around a woman revisiting her tumultuous childhood. Currently, Hope is immersed in the development of several promising screenplays, including Sweet Ladies of the Ritz, a narrative that delves into the lives of poets Sylvia Plath and Anne Sexton, as well as Bridget Cleary and the Good People, a captivating tale recounting the last “witch” burned in Ireland.
